Flow Conditioners
Accurate metering in short pipe runs — restored, uniform velocity profiles.
View SpecificationsThe Flow Conditioner is a passive device installed in the piping upstream of a flow meter to remove swirl, straighten the flow, and produce a stable, fully developed velocity profile. Disturbances from elbows, tees, valves, reducers, pumps, and other fittings distort the flow profile and cause measurement errors in differential pressure, ultrasonic, turbine, vortex, and other flow meters. A flow conditioner corrects this within a short length of pipe, so accurate measurement can be achieved where long straight runs are impractical because of space limitations, skid-mounted layouts, or offshore and retrofit installations. Available in tube bundle, perforated plate, and vane type designs, flow conditioners are supplied as plates for installation between flanges or as complete flanged spool pieces, with no moving parts and minimal maintenance.
Bhavyam offers all flow conditioners under the BETFITT range of products. Design & engineering is done as per global standards to meet challenging process demands.

Applications we serve.
- Orifice, venturi, and nozzle meter runs — reduces the upstream straight pipe length required by ISO 5167 and AGA 3.
- Custody transfer and fiscal metering — supports high measurement accuracy and repeatability in oil and gas transfer.
- Ultrasonic flow meter installations — removes swirl and profile distortion for stable readings.
- Compact skid-mounted systems — allows accurate metering where space for straight lengths is limited.
- Installations downstream of pumps, compressors, and control valves — stabilises highly disturbed flow before measurement.
- Gas and liquid pipelines — improves metering performance at pipeline stations and terminals.
- Offshore platforms and FPSOs — cuts weight and space requirements for meter runs.
- Retrofit and re-rating projects — improves the accuracy of existing meters without re-piping.
Frequently asked questions.
What is a flow conditioner and why is it needed?
A flow conditioner is a device installed upstream of a flow meter that removes swirl and flattens distorted velocity profiles. Fittings such as elbows, valves, and reducers disturb the flow, and most meters need a well-developed flow to read accurately. A flow conditioner restores this in a much shorter length of pipe than a straight run alone would need.
How much straight pipe does a flow conditioner save?
The saving depends on the conditioner type, the meter, and the upstream fitting. In many installations the upstream straight length can be reduced significantly compared with an installation without a conditioner. The exact length should be taken from the applicable standard (such as ISO 5167 or AGA 3) or from test data for the specific conditioner. Our engineers can advise for your piping layout.
What is the difference between a tube bundle and a perforated plate flow conditioner?
A tube bundle conditioner is a group of parallel tubes that mainly removes swirl and straightens the flow. It generally gives low pressure loss but needs more installation length. A perforated plate conditioner is a plate with a pattern of holes that reshapes the velocity profile in a shorter length, but it usually causes a higher pressure drop. The choice depends on the meter type, space available, and acceptable pressure loss.
