BETFLOW aerofoil — duct section with dual foil

BETFLOW Aerofoil (BF-AF)

The Aerofoil Flow Element is a differential pressure flow measurement device shaped in the cross-sectional profile of an Aerofoil. It is installed across the full bore of the duct, spanning from wall to wall, with its chord aligned in the direction of flow. The aerofoil shape creates a controlled, predictable pressure differential between the high-pressure region at the leading edge (upstream) and the low-pressure region on the suction surface downstream of the leading edge.

Bhavyam offers all flow elements under the BETFLOW range of products. Design & Engineering done as per Global Standards to meet challenging process demands. Manufacturing all flow metering solutions as per ISO 5167/ ASME MFC 3M/ ASME 19.5/ BS 1042/ AGA 3/ AGA 8/ RW Miller standards.

Frequently asked questions.

What is an aerofoil flow element and where is it used?

An aerofoil (or averaging aerofoil) is a DP flow element with a streamlined, aerofoil-shaped probe installed across a large duct or pipe. It is primarily used for gas flow measurement in large-diameter ducts, stacks, and ventilation systems, where its low pressure loss and durable design are well suited to continuous, large-volume airflow.

How does an aerofoil differ from an averaging pitot tube?

Both elements span the pipe or duct and average the velocity profile, but an aerofoil has a streamlined, teardrop cross-section rather than a round probe. This shape reduces drag-induced pressure loss and vibration compared with a simple round pitot tube, making it more suitable for large ducts and continuous high-volume gas flow.

What pressure loss does an aerofoil flow element cause?

Aerofoils are designed to cause very low permanent pressure loss, since their streamlined shape minimises the obstruction to flow. This makes them well suited to large-volume gas and air handling systems, where even small pressure losses translate into significant fan or blower energy costs.
