VEGA sensors for level, point level and pressure measurement.

In continuous level measurement, the level of a medium in a tank or silo is detected with different measuring methods and converted into an electronic signal — displayed on site or communicated to a process control system.

Typical applications include process tanks, storage tanks and silos. Measured media are liquids, pastes, powders and bulk solids. VEGA manufactures radar, guided wave radar, ultrasonic, capacitance, hydrostatic and radiation-based products.

Radar is the most accurate and reliable method — non-contact, unaffected by pressure, temperature, dust, condensation or fumes. VEGA pioneered 80 GHz radar with an extremely small beam angle for small tanks and narrow vessels with stirrers or heating spirals. Level measurement up to 30 m in liquids and 120 m in solids, from -40 to +200 °C, with 4–20 mA HART, Profibus and Foundation Fieldbus outputs.

Point level sensors are used in homogeneous liquids and bulk solids in tanks and pipelines — as overfill and dry-run protection, for foam detection and liquid media differentiation such as oil-water detection. Suitable for safety-related applications up to SIL2.

Capacitance, vibration (fork / rod), conductive and microwave types are manufactured by VEGA. Microwave is the only non-contact point level measurement; all others are contact-based. The switching command starts or stops filling equipment such as conveyors or pumps.

The robust, all-round pressure sensor with ceramic measuring cell — resistant to temperature shocks, with an innovative flush-mounted ceramic cell manufactured by VEGA.

Measuring ranges from a few mbar to 1,000 bar, universally usable for gases, vapours and liquids. Abrasive media such as sand are handled easily thanks to the abrasion-resistant ceramic cell.
